Anna Spiteri has been involved in the environmental sciences research field these last 18 years. She runs Integrated Resources Management (IRM) CO. Ltd., a “knowledge-driven” e-company that co-ordinates and participates in European Union sponsored Research and Development projects in consortia with European, North African and Middle Eastern countries.

She is also an expert evaluator and reviewer for the European Commission on GMES projects. Anna has followed a dual career, periodically also working on gender policy issues and projects. |
Indeed, IRMCo was at the forefront in advocating a gender policy in its EU research projects already 10 years ago. Recently, Anna decided to try her talents in setting up a women's grassroots organization, Mara Mediterra. |
Mara Mediterra is being set up with the available resources of IRMCo. |

| Renee Laiviera DE(AM), DPS formerly Director of the Department for Women in Society and Chairperson of the Commission for the Advancement of Women. In the latter post, she was responsible for the harmonization of EU Directives and policies on gender equality in the EU accession process. Also, in line with EU policy, she launched a four year action plan on the implementation of gender mainstreaming in the Public Sector. |

This included training senior and middle managers in seven ministries on gender awareness, gender mainstreaming and gender impact assessment. |
In this project, Renee worked closely with COMSEC experts, Dr. Gwendoline Williams and Prof. Patricia Leighton as well as with Prof. Teresa Rees and Dr Alison Parken of Cardiff University. Renee has also been an active member in a Socrates Grundtvig 2 transnational learning partnership entitled ‘Political Education and Learning for Gender Mainstreaming Implementation’. |
Renee has participated in and made presentations at various national and international conferences on gender equality with particular emphasis on the implementation of gender mainstreaming. She has been active in the women’s movement since the mid-seventies through her work in a number of NGOs. Between 1992 – 1996, she was the General Secretary of the Association of Women in the Mediterranean Region. |

Antoinette Caruana, joined Heritage Malta as CEO in March 2003. Previously she held senior management positions in the private industry and has specialized in human resource management and change strategies.
Educated at the University of Malta, Antoinette has also obtained a Masters’ Degree from the University of Leicester. |

She is currently chairperson of the Malta Professional and Vocational Qualifications Awards Council, a board director of the Employment and Training Corporation, a core member of the Malta EU Steering Action Committee and has sat on the councils of the Malta Employers’ Association and the Foundation for Human Resource Development. Antoinette has consulted with local private and parastatal organizations and is also a part-time lecturer at the University of Malta. |

Dr. Carmel Borg is Senior Lecturer and Dean of the Faculty of Education, University of Malta. He lectures, researches and publishes in the areas of Curriculum Studies, Critical Pedagogy, and Parental involvement in Education. |

Dr. Borg coordinates the Teaching for Diversity Programme at the same University. He is the editor of the Journal of Maltese Education Research and co-editor of the Journal of Postcolonial Education (James Nicholas Press). |
He is consultant to several schools and educational agencies, and technical and academic expert to the European Commission (DG Education). |

Peter Mayo is Associate Professor in the Department of Education Studies, Faculty of Education, University of Malta, where he teaches/researches in Sociology and also in Adult Education. His books include The National Museum of Fine Arts (Midsea, 1997). |
